New Canaan Winter Club Membership Procedure
Any Regular member, who has been a member for a full skating season, may propose, second or support a candidate. Limited members can second or support a candidate. The maximum number of proposing, seconding and supporting letters the Committee will accept, from any member during any twelve month period, will be six. Within that limit, the number of proposing letters will be two. That twelve-month period aside, members may have no more than two proposals pending acceptance at one time.
The proposer should guide the candidate to the club’s website (ncwinterclub.com) to download the application for membership, which can be found under the “Documents” tab along the left side of the website home page. The candidate should complete the application and send it to the proposer as part of their application. It is then up to the proposer to contact and secure 3 additional letters in support of the candidate (seconder and 2 other letters of support). The candidates themselves should let the proposer know of other WC families who may be able to write letters on their behalf, however should not contact these families directly.
In addition to the application, a proposer’s letter, a seconding letter and two supporting letters are required. Such letters should refer to the length of time the writer has known the candidate (husband, wife and children). Letters should also note which programs the family will likely participate in and include background information on community and other activities in which the candidate is involved. The proposer should mail the completed file (application and four letters) to:
Polly Boeschenstein
30 Valley Road
New Canaan, CT 06840
Please email Polly (
) to let her know a file is coming, and she will confirm when it arrives. Please do not email the application and letters, as orignial documents are preferred.
While on the waiting list, proposing members are strongly encouraged to introduce the prospective candidate and his/her spouse to three or more members of the Membership Commitee during periodic gatherings arranged for this purpose or informally at the club or elsewhere.
The Membership Committee meets periodically to review applications. The Membership Committee reserves the right to ask for additional supporting letters or information if necessary. The waiting list for admission to the club is approximately 1- 2 years.
